How to Use the Converter Above

So you’ve got a recipe that says “bake at 400°F for 25 minutes,” but tonight you’d rather use your air fryer. Maybe the oven takes too long to heat up, maybe it’s summer and you don’t want to turn your kitchen into a sauna, or maybe you just love how the air fryer makes everything crispy. Whatever the reason — the converter above has you covered. Here’s how to get the most out of it.

If you want a detail guide about using this calculator, check it here.

The quick version

If you only remember one thing, remember this: the air fryer cooks hotter and faster than your oven. So when you convert an oven recipe, you usually lower the temperature a little and cut the time a bit. The tool does the exact math for you, but that’s the idea behind it.

Step by step

1. Pick your direction. The converter works both ways. Going from an oven recipe to your air fryer? Leave it on Oven → Air Fryer. Already have an air fryer recipe and want to use your oven instead? Flip it to Air Fryer → Oven. One toggle, done.

2. Enter the oven temperature. Type in the temperature your recipe calls for — say, 400°F. You can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius if your recipe uses the other one.

3. Enter the time. Pop in how many minutes the oven recipe needs. That’s it for the inputs.

4. Read your result. The tool gives you the air fryer temperature and time to use. It’s a starting point tuned to how air fryers actually behave — not a wild guess.

A few things that trip people up

“My food came out a little underdone.” Totally normal the first time with a new recipe. Air fryers vary a lot between brands and sizes, so treat the first result as a guide. Check your food a couple of minutes before the timer ends, and add time if it needs it. You’ll dial it in fast.

Frozen foods are the exception. Here’s the one that surprises people: with frozen foods (think fries, nuggets, anything breaded), you usually keep the temperature the same and just shorten the time. That’s because the coating needs the full heat to crisp up properly. The tool handles this for you, but it’s good to know why.

Don’t overcrowd the basket. This isn’t about the math — it’s about the air fryer. If you pile food in, the hot air can’t circulate and nothing crisps evenly. Give your food room. If you’ve got a lot, cook in batches.

Shake or flip halfway. Most air fryer foods turn out better if you give them a shake or a flip partway through. The converter gives you the time; this little habit gives you the even browning.

Why you can trust the numbers

I’ll be honest with you: I’m a developer, not a chef. So I didn’t make these numbers up. I built this tool on the conversion rules used by trusted cooking sources, and I show my work on the How We Calculate page if you’re curious. The short version — air fryer recipes run a bit cooler and a bit shorter than the oven, and the tool applies that consistently.

And because cooking is never truly exact, every result is a range and a starting point, not a promise. For anything with meat, poultry, or fish, please use a thermometer and check it’s cooked through — a timer tells you “probably done,” but a thermometer tells you “safe to eat.”

Your turn

Give it a try with whatever you’re cooking tonight and see how it goes. Did it work for your dish? Did you have to tweak anything? Drop a comment below — I read them, and your real-world results help other people (and help me make the tool better). If something didn’t convert the way you expected, tell me what you were making and I’ll take a look.

Happy (crispy) cooking.
